Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Buying Stuff

Do you sell fabric?
You bet your sweet bippy we do!
We carry quilting cotton, canvas, jersey, voile, linen, rayon and more!

Do you sell sewing machines?
No we don’t.

Can I order online and pick up in store? Do you offer curbside pick up?
Heck yes you can. You'll get a notification as soon as your order is ready for pick up! (Often the same day that you place your order during business hours) but first you will get an email that says we are processing your order, wait for the email that says it's ready for pick up, it will come soon, we promise!)
*Please keep in mind, if it's a sale day we may need extra time to get orders ready and they will most likely only be ready the next business day. Thanks for your patience!

If you would like to pick up without coming into the store, please text 705-822-7182 when you arrive for contact free pick up!

How much will shipping cost?

It depends on two things: How much you spend and where you live. We’ll cover the shipping for any purchase of $150 or more.

Note for ALL shipping: If there’s a difference of $2 or more in actual costs, we will refund you the extra shipping paid.

ECONOMY: We can send small items and up to about 1.5m of fabric through Lettermail, which is much more affordable, but takes A LOT longer, especially right now. If you want your order shipped Lettermail, choose Economy. It has to be able to fit through the Slot of Doom which is 2cm thick. There will be no tracking and no insurance on your order.

EXPEDITED:
The slightly more expensive option, but comes with tracking. This is usually pretty fast and can get to you in as little as 3 days, but can take over a week. Canada Post, amiright!

I live outside of Canada. Can I order fabric from you?
For now we are shipping only within Canada. Sorry, eh.

What happens if I want a refund?

Here’s our refund policy:

In store: Unopened notions can be returned or exchanged within 1 week with a receipt. Fabric, handmade items, kits and patterns are all final sale. If your purchase is defective (nobody likes defective fabric) and you were unaware of this at the time of purchase, talk to us about the issue; we’re pretty reasonable people. (Unless we’re hungry)

Online Store: If the item being returned was a web order, let us know you’d like a return within a week of receiving the item. The cost of return shipping is paid by you, the customer, unless the problem with the order is our mistake. In which case, let’s chat about the problem; as I said we are reasonably pretty people! Also send chocolate I’m hungry.

Classes: There are no refunds on classes. Deposits are not refundable, but can be date-transferred (to a future class) up to 10 days before the start of the original class. This policy is strictly enforced.

When can I expect my order to arrive?
We ship orders within 2 business days after you make your order. After that it's left in the trusting hands of Canada Post. If you do not receive your order within 10 business days please check in with us.

Questions about Services

Do you sell or repair sewing machines?
No we don’t.

Do you do alterations or repairs to clothing?
No we do not.

I need something embroidered, can you do it for me?

No, try asking your grandma?
Just kidding! We don’t do custom embroidery but we know some folks who can. Just ask!

Questions about Classes

Do you offer classes?
Yes!!! And you can read all about 'em here!

How old does my kid have to be to take a class?
We offer classes with sewing machines for kids ages 8 and up. We occasionally have hand-sewing classes which are appropriate for kids 7 and older.

Can I bring my own sewing machine to a class?
Definitely! We do have enough sewing machines here for everyone, but it's a great idea to bring your own so you can get to know your particular machine.

Do I have to buy my fabric from your store?
Why would you want to buy it anywhere else?! Kidding. (sort of) You are definitely welcome to bring fabric for a class purchased elsewhere. However, I do ask that you show me your fabric before the class so I can check if you got the right stuff.  For the Essentials classes especially, we want to make sure that the fabric you have is exactly the right thing so that you don't feel frustrated during the sewing process and that you are happy with the result!

I want to learn to sew but I'm not really interested in the Sewing Essentials projects. Can I make something different?
The Sewing Essentials 1 and 2 classes have been created and honed over time (over 50 sessions taught!) to facilitate a quick accumulation of skills--you are propelled into a fairly advanced sewing level within just a few projects! If you also practice sewing at home, you'll be making whatever you want very quickly. If you still want to make something else instead, private lessons are a great option!

Other Occasionally Asked Questions

Do you like donuts?
Wow. I thought you’d never ask. We freaking love donuts.

So are you two friends, or...?
Nope, we’re super gay for each other. ❤️❤️❤️

What's up with the body positive stuff? How come I'm not allowed to talk about my diet?

Cuz diets are super boring and they don’t work. Also diet talk, food policing and body shaming are extremely harmful.

All bodies, ALL of them, are good. We are passionate about interrupting fatphobia, homophobia, racism and transphobia. We place a high value on EVERY body being at home here in our space. Talking about diets contributes to eating disorders and perpetuates the notion that we should all be striving to look a certain way.

We recognize that we, being members of the human race, learned a lot of stupid stuff that we need to unlearn. Let’s do it together.

How did you get to be so awesome?
Why thank you!
Life is boring when you try to fit in, being unashamedly unapologetically authentic is WAY MORE FUN.
