FAQ's

What happens if I miss a class or part of a workshop series?

It's really important that you show up to every class.  However, in the case of emergency or extraordinary circumstances, please let us know asap and we will do our best to fit you in to a Coaching session for a make-up class free of charge.

Coaching is usually offered twice/month. Your free make up class must be booked within 3 months of your missed class.

If you can't make a class or workshop we always appreciate a call or email so we know not to wait for you!

How do I register for a class/workshop/coaching/private lessons?

You can register in store, over the phone or by email sewlocalsudbury@gmail.com. A 50% deposit is required to reserve your spot for classes, workshops, coaching and private lessons.

The deposit is non-refundable but date transferable towards another class or workshop with notice of at least 10 days before the first day of the original class or workshop you are signed up for. This policy is strictly enforced!

How do you size your clothing?

We simply provide the garment's measurements and a dressing room and let you decide what fits you! Everyone has different preferences for fit and every store sizes differently. We've decided to skip the number game altogether in our goal to challenge body shame, segregated clothing sizing (think plus size sections at the back of the room, petites, etc), combat vanity sizing and encourage body love and positivity. You're welcome.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, credit and debit in store as well as e-transfer and Paypal when booking classes or parties over the phone or by email.

What is your return/exchange policy?

Handmade Items: Exchange only within 7 days, with receipt.

Notions and pre-packaged fabric: Full refund on unopened notions, with receipt, within 7 days.

Fabric: All fabric is final sale, with the exception of pre-packaged fabric.

Refunds for classes, workshops, parties or other services: Our classes/workshops, birthday parties, private lessons and coaching are all final sale. We do not offer refunds for services, except in the rare event that a class/workshop/party has been cancelled by us. However, ten or more days before the start of the first class/workshop/private lesson/coaching session or party,  you may transfer your deposit as a credit towards any other service. Our classes are small and super awesome. They tend to fill up fast and a last minute cancellation will leave spaces empty for those who would have loved to be there, so please give lots of notice.

This policy is strictly enforced!

To register call 705-822-9182, email sewlocalsudbury@gmail.com or pop by the shop!

Do you require a minimum number of registrants to run a class?

For most classes and workshops we require 3 people to run them. Each class has a 2-weeks before registration deadline; if there are fewer than 3 registrants two weeks before the start of the workshop or class, it will be cancelled. We'll let you know right away and give you the option of a refund or to reschedule. Don't worry, this very rarely happens!

Coaching is a bit different--we also require 3 people to run it, but the registration deadline is 1 week before the date.

Our Social Nights do not have a minimum number to run them.

Do I need to bring my own supplies and materials?

If you are taking a class or doing a workshop we will provide you with a supply list!

If you are coming for Social Nights, Coaching, Private Lessons or to use Open Studio time, you will need all materials for your project, unless otherwise specified. You need to provide your own fabric, patterns, buttons, zippers, interfacing and thread, which you can purchase in store or bring from home. We happily provide the rest, everything from pins and scissors, rotary cutters and mats, to sewing machines and sergers!

Everyone registered for a class, workshop or private lesson is eligible for a 10% discount on all fabric and notions purchased here during the time your class is running, even if it's not for the class you're taking.  Yay!  This discount doesn't apply to Coaching, Social Nights, or Open Studio Time.

All supplies are provided for private parties.

Do you sell sewing machines?

From time to time we sell our Janome sewing machines that have previously been used in our studio. Please stop in or give us a call to see if we have any available right now!

Is there an age limit to participate in Sew Local events?

We offer hand stitching and other appropriate classes for children as young as 6.

Our sewing classes and workshops are all available for kids- adults. You will find the appropriate age group listed in the description of each class/workshop.

Open Studio Time, Private Lessons and Coaching are all available for anyone 9+ who is keen to work on a project.

Social Nights are for 14+ unless otherwise specified.

Please check  here for info on current classes and workshops.

Do you do mending/alterations/custom orders?

We no longer do alterations or custom orders. We are too busy running the store, organizing and teaching classes and creating new designs and products to sell.

We love to help you learn to sew and do mending and alterations at one of our classes/workshops, coaching or private lessons.

Can I drop in for classes/studio time/social nights?

If you are looking to join a class or workshop, come for coaching or checking in to see if there is available Open Studio Time please give us a call 705-822-9182, send us an email sewlocalsudbury@gmail.com or pop in the shop; we do not accept drop-ins.
